As are most delivery truck services, delivery trucks are commonly sighted on the roads and highways of all states. A delivery driver may become impatient in these situations as he or she starts to run late.
Speeding is sometimes an option to catch up time but this may cause a serious accident if the driver loses control. Speeding accidents may total any nearby vehicles causing serious injuries to drivers and passengers.
Injuries That May Occur in an Accident
If a delivery driver overtakes a car while speeding and loses control, a sideswipe accident could take place. This could take off the driver and passenger side doors on impact, with a high chance of causing severe, life changing injuries to the occupants.
The sorts of injuries could include serious organ damage, spinal damage and severe breakages to limbs. A lot of blood may be lost as the wounds are likely to be deep. In the worst cases, a life may be lost.
Filing a PI Claim For Injuries From an Accident
If you are lucky enough to still be conscious after the accident, despite your injuries, and you know the other driver was at fault you may have to provide the evidence to prove it. This may enable you to file a PI claim against the at-fault driver.
You may expect to add any loss of wages covered in your claim as well as all the cost of medical treatment. These may be calculated to include costs in the future until you are able to return to work. The evidence you may need to prove the other driver is at fault could include:
- the police officer’s report;
- any eye witness reports;
- your car repair bill;
- doctor and medical treatment bills;
- a crash investigation report if required;
- photos and/or surveillance camera footage;
- proof of your wages provided by your employer.
Once you have gathered all the evidence you should talk to a PI lawyer who may file a PI claim on your behalf.
Working with a PI Lawyer
You may notice quite quickly after the accident that because you are not able to work you are no longer receiving your wages.
Your PI lawyer may tell you that any lost wages may be included in the PI claim so once the claim has been lodged and accepted you may be closer to receiving your lost wages.
It may take far longer to get a settlement if you try to lodge a PI claim on your own.
